Fox News ignores Mexico’s Inflamatory State of the Nation

September 7th, 2007 · No Comments

ph20070902009591.jpgMexico does not end at its borders.”  Those are the words spoken by Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon Sunday September 2nd, while giving the Mexican State-of-the-Nation speech. Calderon continued later in his speech by saying “Where there is a Mexican, there is Mexico.”

These inflammatory comments aimed at the US immigration policy have been ignored by Fox News.  On many occasions Fox News has reported on immigration stories and conducted interviews with politicians and Presidential candidates asking about immigration policy yet failed to ask for a reaction to President Calderon’s statements. In paticular GOP hopefuls Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter were asked about immigration yet not about Calderon’s statements.

One might surmise that Fox News failed to take notice of these comments because they happened during the three day Labor Day weekend. That would be bad enough for a news organization, but these comments have been reported on CNN and in the Washington Post. Fox News should have picked up on these statements by monitoring CNN and the Washington Post.

Why Fox News would choose to ignore such inflammatory comments by the President of Mexico is puzzling. Does Fox News not believe that Calderon saying that “Mexico does not end at its border” is not news worthy? Considering that Mexico encourages their citizens to illegally cross the border, and reports of the Mexican military crossing into American territory to support drug runners, comments by the Mexican President insinuating that Mexico does not consider that the border is a limit it is strange that Fox chooses to not report these comments.

While this blogger is puzzled by Fox News’ editorial decision to ignore these comments this blogger does know that this is bad journalism and a failing that Fox News needs to correct ASAP!
