TV News Review

I was reading the paper this morning and noticed an advertisement for a new TV series on Fox Broadcasting called “AnchorWoman“. The star, Lauren Jones, tries to transform herself from a swinsuit model to a TV news anchor.

I know TV News is a visual medium and the anchors appearance matters but just how important are their looks. You would expect anchors to be well groomed and nicely dressed. But, it is important that they be beautiful? I run through the list of anchors and I can’t think of a single one that is ugly. In fact, I can’t even think of one with average looks. They’re all beautiful.

I came to the conclusion Lauren Jones stands a good chance of becoming a TV News Anchor. Since she’s beautiful, she’s already pass a major hurtle for an anchor. She’s educated so learning to read a teleprompter shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.

If you’re looking for a career in journalism and you’re not beautiful, you might want to reconsider your options. Cable news doesn’t have many openings for anchors with average looks.
